Okay, i've got this .AVI file on a CD, that has come from an analogue (normal) camcorder, through some kind of video input device onto a PC. Now I have it, and i can't read it. It opens iQT player fine, but it's just a whole heap of coloured dots everywhere!!

I understand that .AVI isn't the problem, that it's the codec or something, but under it's file info it says i't "DV", which i understood that QT 5 supported, how can i read this movie???

please help!!!!

You need to download Windows Media Player I think. You'll be able to read the movie but you won't be able to edit it or anything.

Anyway, i think that should work.

Thanks, i just tried that, and WMP doesn't even open it!!! At least QT Player gives it a good shot!!

Okay, another option here..i went into Virtual PC it opened fine in WMP (for windows), so is there a PC utitlity perhaps to convert this to a file My mac can read??
