I have been converting an .avi file for about an hour (750MB) with avi2mov, and it is hogging the CPU but not showing any progress. The .mov target file is still 0k, and the progress bar in the app has not even started.

Is this normal? Anyone else have experience with this app?

this is how the CPU usage has looked for the past hour:

I have used that program, and it is typically very fast. The conversion taking only slightly longer than if you were to copy the file. The only time this was not the case, there were problems with the .avi, and the .mov was not playable with quicktime.

I noticed after a while that my available disk space was showing as '0' from what had been over 4GB. Note that both the source and target files were on another 40GB drive whose space never changed.

After aborting the process, my space was still showing as 0, and I could not account for any of the extra usage. I had to log out and back in again before the space returned to normal. Pretty scary; I almost thought I would have to break my 53 day uptime .
