Why does downloading .avi files end up in an IE 5 .avi icon?

I used to be able to download .avi files usinf IE 5 and they would appear as a quicktime icon and I would be able to open them up using divx which relies on WMP 6.3 but now the icon looks like an IE 5 files that has an .avi attachment to it. Why?

Either the download is not finished, you saved as an IE file, or it no longer knows to associate the files with QuickTime Player of DivX Player.
See if you can rectify this with the File Exchange control panel if it is the last of the three options that is correct...
