i am having a little trouble burning a music cd. this is the problem. i have purchased a brand new (blank) cd-r media. it holds 700MB and is a memorex cd. my computer supports cd-rw and dvd-rw (mac g4/733).

my problem is this. when i place the blank cd-r in the drive, the automatic wizard asks me what do i want to do with the disc. i say music cd and choose iTunes format. i click CHOOSE and then nothing happens.

what is supposed to happen next? how long is the disc initialization supposed to take? am i doing something wrong to prepare the disc?

any help is greatly appreciated.

are you using OS X or 9?

i've never really paid attention to those format dialogs. on X, if i'm making an audio cd, i'll stick it in, and it brings up that dialog. i just click 'continue', and then go into iTunes, make my playlist, then burn from within iTunes.

after you click 'choose', is there any cd drive activity? if not, then just go to iTunes, and see if you can burn there.

Just start toast or itunes before you throw the disk in.

thanks for the help. i did that and it seemed to work. coming into this fresh, i just assumed i would be able to 'see' the unformatted disk onscreen. i did what you suggested and just burned the disk and all seemed to work.

btw, i am using os x.
