I just recently purchased a new Canon ZR10 Digital Camcorder and I went to import the footage I had shot over the weekend into iMovie, but it wouldn't let me. The import, button was grayed out and I could not select it. I could control the camera from iMovie, but I could not import my video. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Is iMovie set to Import Mode or Edit Mode? The switch for this is the little icon on the bottom left of the main screen. When you toggle it you should get a picture or blue screen showing in iMovie.

The other issue is the connection. No offense. , but are you sure you are plugged into the FireWire Port and not the USB port? The firewire port has a Y shaped icon.

Yes, I am sure I plugged it into the FireWire Port. They are two completely different things, Fire and USB. Any way, when I plugged in my camera it gives me like a time counter in the upper right corner. So, I know the camera is connected. I also know the camera is connected, because when I turn it off it says "Camera Disconnected". I can make the camera play the footage it has, but on the camera. I can not get it to import over.

Forgot to tell you, Yes I have been able to import, before but it was with a different camera!

Thanks,

computerman

Apple.com has software support pages & discussion boards. Check there.
If you "borrowed" iMovie, then maybe the drivers for that camera are missing.

BTW, are you using OS 9x?

G'luck. I'm out of advice.

Well I already called Apple and told them what was happening and then said they where going to send me a free copy of OS9, because the guy who I had talked to earlier in the day never told me I needed 9.0 to run iMovie2. No, I did not "borrow" iMovie, the CD came with iMac just like everyone elses. And no I am not using OS9, yet, I am using 8.6

I have a ZR-10 and had to do nothing special with installation: plug-in and import in the literalist sense (with iMovie 2).

Reinstall iMovie from the CD. I presume you're using iMovie2....

Wait a minute.... . Are you out of HD space? Look in the bottom right of the iMovie window and see how much space is available.

Also, give the Mac specs next time (model, RAM, HD).

[edit]

I posted this after you posted the above. Still check your HD space. If your running an iMac w/8.6, you're HD is not larger than 13 GB--iMac DV SE-unless you've upgraded it.

No, I am not outta HD Space. I have 8.6 Gigs left on my 10 Gig Drive. I only have like 3 minutes of footage on my camera. I am currently trying to use iMovie with my Canon ZR10, but that did not work so I am getting OS9 in the mail and I paid 49 bucks to download iMovie 2 from Apple. So, as soon as my OS9 comes in the mail I will install that, then install iMovie 2, but if you know of a way I can use my Canon ZR10 with iMovie 1.0.2...I am all ears!
