Hi, is it possible to take a clip (one picture) from a quicktime movie? If so, how is it done??

You will need to have a registered version of Quicktime. Move the slider to the frame you want a still picture of and choose Export from the FIle menu of Quicktime Player. Click on the drop-down menu which probably says Movie to Quicktime Movie and select Movie to Picture. You have a number of choices for internal format but I believe they all are saved as an uncompressed PICT file. I have always used Tiff as the internal format, millions+ colors and Best quality and have had no problem with other graphics programs reading them. If you want a jpeg image file you can use Picture Viewer, for example, to convert the PICT format to jpeg.

OK, have tried that, but what happens if the movies is locked so you can not export or cut and paste?? Would using cmd-shft-4 work and take a screenshot of what I want and then use Photoshop to make it a jpg???

I don't see how it's easier to ask than it is to just take the screenshot, so why don't you tell us if it works?

Well, a couple of reasons why I didn't try it and tell you.
1) The movie was on my work computer which I am at now and wasn't over the weekend.
2) Since I couldn't try it, I wanted to know if there was any problems with the quality of a screenshot and if anyone had done this.

I am amazed at how snippy the people on these boards. In fact, the picture I was asking about I am going to use in my signature to represent what the MacNN Forums mean to me. By the way it did work, here is the picture:

Click on the picture with the mouse and as you hold on the picture in QuickTime movie just drag it to the desktop...a clip will appear of only one frame.
Been doing that for over 5 yrs.

That doesn't work either when the movie has been locked. Thanks for the info though, I have used it on movies that aren't locked!!
