I have some music on MiniDisc which i need to get onto my mac, ideally in MP3 format. Has anyone out there got any idea how to do it?

Can I just plug a MiniDisc player into the mic socket on my Mac (an old 6500 by the way, but I work on a G4 if thats a help) and record using something like MacAmp?

Ideally any soltuon will of course have to cost zero cash!

You will need to connect your MD to the computer's sound input via a 'stereo RCA male to stereo 1/8" male plug' cable (if you have an MD deck with RCA outs), or a stereo 1/8" male to male cable (if you have a portable MD unit). I'm not familiar with MacAmp, but any program that will let you record the audio in aiff will do. Then I guess you can convert it to mp3 via iTunes.

If you have the right cables, this may not cost you a thing!

or if you have an A/V card with RCA on your mac, like on my G3 266 tower, than you can plug it through the rca!!!
