I'm looking for the best way to get my analog (8 mm) video into my computer (Powerbook G3 firewire). What factors should I consider? Does anyone have a preference for the Sony DVMC-DA2 or the Dazzle Hollywood-DV bridge? Are there other firewire or USB solutions? I also have a PowerMac 7500 with a G3 accelerator which has video in. I suspect the quality would be poor, but I'm not sure. How about a PCI card for the PoweMac 7500 such as the Formac ProTV Stereo?
Thanks for the advice

I'm using Interview USB device and Strata Videoshop* (included software) which I picked up for $99 a year ago -- I was very pleasantly surprised, yea flabbergasted, at the resulting video quality -- I expected much worse.

(*but Ihaven't yet mastered the challenge of getting the end result compressed and up on the web--that's another story in another thread)

I'm also looking for similar help/info. Formac is also going to be offering an analog-DV converter. I'm looking for a way to save movies until the iDVD can get down to a consumer level price

What kind of frame rate and what size screen do you get with the Interview USB device? The Sony DVMC-DA2 costs on the order of $300. It would seem to me that there would not be a market for it if a $99 device would work.

I have the Sony DVMC-DA2 and a sony 8mm camcorder. It works perfectly with iMovie on my iMac 500 SE. I can import and export with no problems. I can control the camera perfectly from my desktop. It's really cool. The only thing is that your camcorder must have the LANC connection for it to work well. If you do not have the LANC connection, you may have a problem exporting to the camera. I got my converter for about $270 at eleaseorbuy.com.
