Humble (video newbie) Question of the day:

Any solutions? -- Need a quick down, but not too dirty solution to get digital videos up on to my http://www.h2omen.com/ site.

I've captured mini surfing clips (approx 8 MB, 15 secs) in Strata Video Shop via the Interview analog to digital converter, and am trying to figure out how to compress and get these up on my site in QuickTime and MPEG 1 or 2 formats. I do not have Quicktime Pro yet so i don't know if that will do a basic job.

I have no budget for Sorenson or Terran Compression suite (when I desperately need a Powerbook, an Airport Card or two, another 256 MB Ram, and Dreamweaver Ultradev upgrade, a bloomin PeeCee*, VPC 3, and a few other $$$oftware packages that will leave me all but bankrupt.)

Many thanks,

Vsurfer

* so my son and I can play Gettysburg, and dev code on the native platform

Are you in any way against 'ahem' freeware? ( Not in the literal sense) If not then go to www.carracho.com and dl the client software. I assure you, you will find what your looking for in minutes.

Sek,

I have no prob with open source/freeware...An dI must say this Carracho thing just opens up so darn quick it's astonishing. It's a nice interface too.

But i'm not sure what it is -- it looks like an ftp solution or something.

But it seems to need a Carracho server set up at the other end. I'm not sure my unix web host service will allow that. I tried dailing into my web server the usual way but since it's not carracho it don't fly.

Also my main need is to clean and compress video and find a cheap of free alternative to sorenson.

THanks,

I'll explore this Carracho thing anyway it feels very well executed whatever it is.

Get Quicktime Pro. It will be the best $30 you ever spent. Yes you can do basic compression with built in sorenson or cinapak codes.

I have got to say that it is really uncool to promote piracy.

Eric, don't be so naive. Carracho is a well known source for Warez (i.e. illegially copied) software.

There is a "lite" version of Media Claener Pro called that comes with most digital video software called Media CleanerEZ. Check to see if it is on your install CD, I am not sure if it comes with Strata's product. But that would do what you need.

Here is another stupid question! Is there any way to create hotspots in a QTVR without paying $300 for a program that I need only for it's hotspots feature? Is there some freeware program out there that I haven't heard of yet. HELP PLEASE!
