PVR or Personal Video Recorder or TimeShift TV or TiVoPC or whatever you'd like to call it. I have two of these boxes now and I love em. I have them record any shows that I like but always miss since I'm never home at the right time and then late at night I get to watch everything I missed.

Like many, I never thought I'd use it but my wife wanted one so I got it 1+ years ago and once I used it I was hooked. Infact I'd never even think about not having the feature now and even got a 2nd unit so I could have one 'of my very own' (my wife and I differ on our TV viewing from time to time).

Has anyone seen any software that will do it on the Mac? WinBlows users as well as Linux seem to have quite a few different software programs to pick from and unless someone can show me otherwise Mac users don't.

Funny thing is TiVo is built around a custom version of PPC Linux (yes I said PPC) the TiVo is totally built around the PPC (604e I think) So it seems ever more strange thay nobody has written something similar for us.

Oh and for those who ask 'why' on a Mac when the TiVo or DishPlayer (this is what I have) will do the job. Storage, I can put GOBS of storage in a Mac and even with HD upgrades on the TiVo or DishPlayer you can only really have 1 drive. DVD burning and using FinalCut Pro also come to mind. Finally it would be 'one more' really cool thing you could do with your Mac.

Well, bah. I found this thread while looking for an answer to the same question myself. If Master Jobs wants his products to be the center of our digital worlds, he's got a big planet missing, IMHO. I've been reading about PVRs lately, and getting interested. Then I found this and got a real case of gadget envy. I'd trade in my Handspring for an iPaq for the ability to upload shows to my handheld- not cuz I'm a TV junkie ( I don't even have cable or a dish!), but simply for the cool factor of watching West Wing on my handheld over lunch.....

With Windows 2000 not sucking that bad, and OS X making me feel like I'm using a IIsi instead of a 450Mhz G4 Cube... <peers over fence>...
OS X: Where software installation doesn't require wizards with shields.
