Just discover that my Powerbook G4 400 will not play any of my VCD disk. I am running OS 10.1.3, QT5. Haven't played any VCD for a long time so I don't know whether this is a 10.1.3 problem... previously (long time ago) I get QT Player to open the file in the MPEGAV folder and then it plays the VCD movie fine...anyone has any idea what I can try? Thanks!

AFAIK, OS X doesn't yet play VCDs.

What you can do is
(a) boot back into OS9 to play them, or
(b) boot back into OS 9, rip your VCD with MacVCD, convert to another format, burn that onto a CD and then play it in X. http://www.mireth.com/pub/mxme.html

and send an email to apple asking for VCD support in X.

Exactly right -- seems to be a bug with the OS itself, in that someone forgot to add support for the relevant file format.

They know about it...

...but an email to OS X feedback wouldn't hurt.

My copy of Quicktime 5 Pro for OS X works with my Video CDs and MPEG-1 files. I have a feeling my installation of FCP3, MacVCD or VideoLAN may have cause this to happen.
