In using QT Pro 5 and an AVI file, I get the following message when opening the file.

"You may experience problems playing a video track in "filename" because the required compressor could not be found. Would you like to close the file or continue?

I thought QT4 had all the required compressors installed to play an AVI file. Has anybody else seen this before and what can be done to get QT4 to recognize the AVI file?

And here, and there and this and that and, oh, this one and, BTW, last but not least :o

i have been trying to get avi's to work all weekend!

Hörnchen: thanks for all the links. i now am able to play avi's on my mac. well sort of ... can't get any sound but it's a start!

does anyone know how to get the sound going? i have tried to 'doctor' it but it wouldn't work.

p.s. easiest way to play avi's is to get a copy of windows media player 6.3 (NOT 7) and a mac divx player.

thanks again

The sound thing is something I don't understand. There are movies around that don't have, or a very bad one! Maybe the guy who encoded did a bad job or its a sound format not (yet) known to the Mac (I believe in encoding error). You got one of those files!? Most of the movies I have had a good sound quality on my PB 333.
Have a look at the latest thread on that.
