When trying to install QT4 from behind a Firewall, the Status shows 0K of 0K for a few seconds, and I get error "1076:13,-43", stating that the file "VISEData" was not found, even though I have entered the Proxy address and port. Is there an official incompatibilty with Firewalls?

Installing QT4 through firewalls does seem to be a bit strange and I think this is going to have to be tweaked before the final version. Even trying to install QT4 for Windows through my Netscape Proxy Server craps out at the end when it's trying to load the very last file. If I had to guess, I say that the end of file information on the last file to download is getting lost, thus aborting the entire download.

We've also had a lot of trouble getting the Windows client to install through a Netscape proxy. The Macs install no problem, though. I'm guessing it's the same proxy-type bug that plauged the early Sherlock stuff.

Has anyone found a place on apple's site to just download the whole thing? (these web installers drive me nuts...)

I normally use the ‘vicom Internet gateway’.

And that is the problem. With the ISDN modem directly connected to the computer everything works fine. But with the ‘vicom Internet gateway’ nothing happens.

According to the apple website. IP translation does not work if the router does not support RTPS.

I hope I can upgrade the Internet gateway so it does work. But what about my company they use a hardware ISDN router. Will this ever work? I have never had any problems with Realplayer so is apple going to solve this?

I ran into the "VISEData" file problem as well, installing on a Mac. What's particularly irritating is that the installer loses your name and organization info (and I presume serial number if you have one) after this.

I still haven't managed to get beyond this point (it does seem to manage to get a few files so it can't be purely that the firewall doesn't work).

How to install from behind an unco-operative firewall:
Use a web-browser to access http://qtinstall.apple.com/us/mac/
Download the three VISE* files to your system.
Find a recent vintage apache server inside your firewall. The server has to support byte-range downloads apache 1.3.x does this, but I don't know about the others. Apple used apache. Create a /us/mac/ location on that server and place the VISE files there.
Create a :System Folderreferences:Hosts text file with the line:
qtinstall.apple.com A IP_of_your_apache_server
Go to the TCP/IP control pannel and make sure that the hosts file option points to the right file.
Run the QT4 installer.
The Basic Playback and Deluxe Playback work, but Quicktime Authoring stalled out on me. I haven't debugged that part.

Good luck.
