For some reason, now, when I drop an MPEG into MediaCleaner 5, it has NO video. Only Audio. I'm running Cleaner on 9.2.1 IN classic on 10.0.4. Anyone have a clue about this? QuickTime movies work fine, and MPEG's have always worked before. These very same files have worked in cleaner before.

Are there any better, preferable carbon apps out there that let me use the Sorrenson codecs to convert big ol' files, with all of sorrenson's options? And what about Variable Bit Rate MPEG's? How can I make these?

Strange; MPEG files have always given me the opposite problem; when I try to export them (via Cleaner, QuickTime, or anything else) I get only video; no sound.

What you may want to do is demux the MPEG (there are several apps out there for the Mac that can do this), then rejoin them in Cleaner as part of the conversion process. Since they originally came from the same file anyway, you shouldn't have to worry about the sync process.

And as for whether or not there are better apps, there aren't... yet. Once Lukifer finishes his port of MacFlask, that may change.

Same here, video no sound is the usual problem.

Seems MPEGs are real picky about size too. I don't remember the specifics, but we'd take video, scale it down in Final Cut and export a 320x240 Quicktime. Well, damn if it did not report as something like 252x180 or something horrid in apps like Director. We never really could figure out what to do. I think we ended up doing most of the compression on a PC in that case. Fixed both the size and sound problem, though I have no idea why.

Which programs can do this? I need to convert an MPEG-1 to AVI and can't demux the sound. Sounds just what I need...

Whenever I use Cleaner 5 for mpeg (even VCD mpeg) it crashes when it opens the file.
