I downloaded fine; installed seamlessly; played for 30 minutes. Then, back to the real world. In Quark TypeReunion wasn't working. I trashed the prefs and re-started-no go. I re-installed TypeReunion-no go. I'd like to have 4.0, but it isn't worth six screens of fonts.

The problem with Reunion has nothing to do with Quicktime. It has to do with 8.5. Adobe says a fix is coming soon, but I've been hearing that for months. There is a tech note on this topic at the Adobe support page.

I was at a presentation of InDesign last week and the Adobe guy sort of hinted that Type Reunion was no more.

Only a few Adobe programs support Type Reunion today, and starting with InDesign they will implement some new technology. I guess we will have to look elsewhere for Type Reunions functionality in non-Adobe programs.

I had the Type Reunion problem, too. After turning on and off parts of Quicktime 4 and 10 restarts I isolated the main Quicktime extension itself as the bugger. Had to go back to QT 3. And this was with System 8.1.

I've had ATR constantly nag me "Not Enough System resources" since I first got it, it seems to turn on and off according to its own whims, but I noticed no change since QT3 or QT4b21.

Tip: I trashed ATR 2.0 quite quickly after discovering it's really doing strange things to the stability of my system. I'm back to Type Reunion 1.2 now - ok, it's not quite the same functionality as ATR Deluxe 2.0, but it does it's thing. And works flawlessly for me, on a B&W G3 with OS 8.5.1.

I should have said I was using ATR 1.2 on a 8500/180 with System 8.1 when it stopped working with the Quicktime extension. I'd be using System 8.5.1 but I'm still waiting for Adobe to update Adobe Type Manager. Zzzzzz....

I used to use ATR, but since I had so many problems with it I had to ditch it. Because ATM and ATR are practically necessary components of the OS, I really wish Apple and Adobe would get together and do something about rolling this stuff into the OS. I'm sick of the constant problems, crashes, glitches and incompatibilities associated with fonts. Font management is hell with the current Mac OS, and font utilities really eat up system memory. I think it's about time for an update in this department.

end rant here

I don't think the ATR problem has anything to do with OS 8.5. After I disable my QT 4 extensions, ATR (1.2) works as well as it ever did.

As soon as I enable QT extensions, no more font sets.

Does anyone have a solution???

I can verify that QT4 and ATR conflict, although I couldn't understand how. Our design department has G3/233 machines and each have ATR installed. After installing QT4, the font family feature didn't work in Quark, FreeHand, and Pagemaker (three different, competing companies that all use ATR fine). After rebooting with just the base OS 8.5 extension set + ATR 1.2, the problem still arose. We tried booting with the base OS 8.5 extension + ATR MINUS QT4 components and the problem disappeared. Unfortunately, that's how it goes folks. Does anyone know if this happens with ATR 2.0 or 2.5? If this continues I'm going to switch our design Macs to TypeTamer.
