I want to turn an animated Gif into a DV sequence for import into iMovie2.

The Gif is a map with a route drawn on it. It looks fine when opened directly in Quicktime Player. But when I export it as DV PAL (for UK TV) and re-open it in Quicktime or iMovie it looks terrible. In particular, all the text is unreadable.

Any advice on the process, or the settings I should be using, gratefully received.

How are you previewing your work ? On the computer monitor or a seperate PAL monitor (TV set) ?

Often times text looks awful on the screen in FCP but is actually fine when previewed on an external monitor.

The other thing to do might be to export it out of Quicktime as Animation Codec or even 'None" Codec. Both are much higher quality than DV. You will still need to render it when you place it in the imovie timeline though and file sizes are much bigger.
