I have downloaded QT 6 PR and am very impressed by it so far. I am very interested in the AAC audio format that it supports. I have been told it is the same size or smaller than MP3 or WM and is a much better quality? Is this true? If so I would like to convert my CD and MP3 collection to AAC. How do I go about doing this? I have yet to find an AAC encoder of any type. I figured since QT6 supported it it would have an Export or Save As ability to make AAC files. If it does I have yet to come accross it. QT 6 has a ton of conversion options. Can anyone tell me how to do it?

Read through the QT 6 preivew page for the details. AAC is not on the preview and will not be available with QT 6 until the full version is released with OS X 10.2 later this summer.

If you have purchased the Pro version you can even write AAC files (which Apple calls .mp4 files)! This leads to a thought ...

Thanks guys. I tried to MP4 encoder and it worked great. It's a little slower than MP3 encoding, but oh well. It is smaller and sounds just as good. Although I did just convert an MP3 to an MP4. I am going to try it later with an original CD ripped AIF and see how well it works.
I was also pleasently surprised to find out that iTUNES supports MP4 playback. Awesome.
I played my new converted file with absolutely no problem.

iTunes can't play MP4 audio files yet... Only Quicktime can... or at least I haven't seen anything relating to MP4's AAC audio playing on iTunes...
Regarding the whole iTunes/iMovie/iPod Pro business, I don't think you are going to see that anytime soon. I think you would see a big "F@#$ APPLE!!!" theme everywhere if they tried that crap. QuickTime needs the Pro feature because realistically you get hundreds of dollars worth of software with the upgrade.
but that being said, I have noticed that it is really hard to find a iMovie 2 download from Apple's website... It is easy from my iTools account, but not from the website... makes me wonder...
