I'm not sure what all the crying is about. I've played with it all afternoon, with no probs at all. It's fast, the quality is incredible and I've had no crashes or hangs.

I did notice that some of the content from the news services was a little suspect. Clips from CNN were grainy and had audio clarity problems. These issues seem to stem from the quality level selected when the video clips were digitized, not the playback.

Our network allows most of the video clips to load in 2-5 seconds and the player begins playing the clip before the entire file has been downloaded. The largest Star Wars clip loaded in 28 seconds and played flawlessly.

I'm running a G3/266 with 48 megs ram. I am also running OS 8.6 beta 9.

I have yet to see or hear a Real Audio/Video clip that sounds better than an old AM radio or a TV with rabbit ears/aluminum foil for an antenna.

If Apple can squash some bugs, I think that 4.0 will be a winner.

What impress us the most is when we play movie trailers from apple site. Since we got 768 Kbps DSL (download speed), we play high quality movie almost right away! Quicktime really shines at higher bitrate (56K and higher).

Nothing could be this cool!

Qt 4.0 I imagine is pretty good with a 56K modem or higher. But Apple clearly stated that QT 4 streaming will have "good performance" on a 28.8 modem. QT 4 quality on a 28.8 connection is really nothing to smile about. Apple should clearly state that QT 4.0 requires at least a 56K connection OR start working on QT 4 so that 28.8 - 33.6 users can enjoy streaming content at a reasonable quality.

Well, it's beta21, isn't it? They can nail it down methinks.

I'm using a fairly old PowerMac 7600. And to echo thomas43, I find QT 4.0 amazing. The performance has improved dramatically.
I could not play the starWars trailer on my machine at all with QT 3.0. now with QT 4.0 I can!! It's absolutely incredible!

I've no problems at all with TypeReunion or any of the other problems most people have been crying about.

QT 4.0 ROCKS!
