Has anyone tried out the QT Broadcaster software newly released by Apple?
I've got the QTB hooked up to my iBook and trying the options to broadcast one to one.... I'll try with QTSS later. The trouble is that when I try to connect from another machine over the LAN (rtsp://192.168.1.232) the client connects and then has a '406: not acceptable' error.
This is strange.
Any ideas?
A similar thing happens trying to connect to itself - i.e localhost - rtsp://127.0.0.1
There's not much in the way of tutorials on Apple's site yet - still looking.

I haven't got a solution for you - at least not directly. But the best I've found so far for figuring some of this out is here:
<a href="http://lists.apple.com/mailman/listinfo/streaming-server-users" target="_blank">http://lists.apple.com/mailman/listinfo/streaming-server-users</a>
and here:
<a href="http://lists.apple.com/mailman/listinfo/quicktime-talk" target="_blank">http://lists.apple.com/mailman/listinfo/quicktime-talk</a>
I subscribed to these lists, but check out the "web archive" links on each of these pages. If you'd rather not join a mailing list you can browse for your issues. Some Apple employees are all over these lists trying to help folks get this working.
Enjoy

Right on the first page, it says "Learn: Get 'on the air' in under 5 minutes." It's a walk thru for setting up a one to one broadcast.

Thanks for the tips,
I went through the Help menu steps - but although I can get Broadcaster to stream to the localhost now (127.0.0.1) and to itself on a local IP (192.168.0.4) when I load up the same .sdp file from another machine (Win XP) QT6 connects and then says 'ready' without streaming.
I also set up a new LAN with new settings and equipment but the same error occurs - so it is not a closed port issue or something wierd with the router on the LAN.
Wierd.
I'll put a post up on the QTSS list and see if there is anything obvious I'm doing wrong.
Also Broadcaster seems a little beyond my iceBook 500 - it freezes the GUI does wierd stuff to the Dock and generally misbehaves.... got to say I'm getting frustrated - or perhaps I need a G4....
Thanks...

I went through the 5 minute walkthrough and I think I have everything set up correctly, but I am getting the following error:
Broadcaster Error
Stream Error: -5400
[QTBroadcastVideoStream setupStream]
Anyone have any ideas?

Jasong - you need to set the transmission popup in the network tab to Manual unicast.
That should solve that error message.
I've still not solved the issues discussed here. The five step process ends in my other machines with either the 'ready' message (WinXP) or a 'Live Broadcast' but no stream (iMac).
But using the same SDP file I can connect on the same machine with the QT Broadcaster.
I guess I'll shaddup until I learn what is going wrong.

Sometimes I need to read manuals a bit closer.
I was putting the source IP address in the address window of QT Broadcaster.... in Unicast mode it needs to be the Destination computer's IP Address.
A helpful hint in the QT Broadcaster interface would be good - it would stop me making a public fool of myself.

i have a question ... if i am trying to broadcast a stream ... it is difficult to ask a person for their ip address ... most people (this is my family here) don't even know what that is ... is there an easier way to obtain an ip address of the destination computer?

In OS 9 open up the TCP/IP control panel and it's listed there.

This past weekend we tried Broadcaster. No problems.
It's the absolute ****ing shiznit app of the decade. Wild **** . We love it.
If only there was a use for it - as a home user.
