I made three DVD's using my G4 iMac recently. All three played without any problem on my Sony DVD player. Yesterday, I upgraded the DVD player to version 3.1 and then burned a new DVD and it is refusing to play on the same DVD player because of "prohibited due to area restriction" How did this happen? Why is my Apple DVD drive and iDVD application burning out of area DVD's?

My questions:

How do I know if the Apple Superdrive is set to the correct region code i.e # 1 for North America?

Is there any way to burn DVD's using a Universal code # 0?

Thanks,

Satya

is the new DVD not playing on your sony or apple DVD player?

Updating your DVD player shouldn't have affected iDVD. Maybe something weird is going on with the updated player. Try some other burned DVDs and a couple commercial, movie-type DVDs.

When I tried to play the new DVD (after it refused to play on the Sony DVD)on the Apple Superdrive, I was asked to set the region code for the DVD drive (with a warning that I can do it only five times). I set it to # 1 and I was able to play the newly burned DVD on it.

Why did the drive ask me to set the region code? Somehow it was set to a different code when I upgraded the DVD player software?
