There's few things I hate more on this earth than macamp. why? my computer freaking hates it. 99% of the crashes i have are from macamp (im using b7, and forget lite). i was really looking forward to q4 because of mp3 capabilities, which would lead to me never having to use macamp again.
but it's just not a feasible option if theres no PLAYLIST! apple, what in gods name were you thinking? i admit that the sound quality is top notch, but with no playlist capabilities, there's no way im going to use it. i have over 2 gigs of mp3s, and q4 just doesn't meet my needs without a playlist, and im sure a lot of people would agree..

Hey Billybob

I'm not sure if you are aware of this, but SoundApp from Norman Franke plays mp3's (along with every other sound format on the face of the planet) and it supports playlists and does it very well...

Check it out at http://www.spies.com/~franke/SoundApp/SoundAppPPC.sit.bin

Good luck

P.S.

QT DOES need a playlist as well as to smooth out the skipping when not just sitting there

Hello,
I would just like to voice my support for the need of a playlist in quicktime. There needs to be a way to sequence the Favorites. Pretty snazzy interface, except the volume and equalizer settings reset themselves after every song. At least, in this recent beta, Apple put the default sound up to almost maximum level. In previous betas, it was all the way at the bottom. 8•(
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime les systèmes, leur application exceptée."

There is a playlist (sort of). Actually, it's a "favorites drawer". Same thing. Anways, if they added the option to automatically go to the next movie in the favorites and made the equalizer and volume settings STAY (or save with the file) from movie to movie, I'd be very VERY happy

another vote for a playlist here!

the favorites drawer is neat but there's no info. there's no way of knowing which file your clicking on. most mp3's have detailed "tags" that contain great info like title, artist, year, album etc. i hope apple implements some of these things!

I don’t think that QT4 is supposed to be a replacement for MacAmp. It seems that inclusion of MP3 support is just another way of working with Audio.

I agree and I don't agree.

First of all, I'm not sure if a Playlist a la Macamp is what Apple was going for here. I think they just wanted a place to put frequently viewed movies. However, this goal is contrary to what most people will actually use it for.

Now, if they want to keep the favorites drawer as just a place to put favorites, I still think it should have names/titles/etc. instead of just icons.

Now, as for equalizer settings staying between songs/movies/etc., the problem is that QT4 actually considers the changes as part of the movie. Try this, open a movie/mp3, make equalizer changes, then close the window, it will ask you if you want to save them. This makes sense in the environment of the "old" quicktime, but with QT4 and QTPlayer's idea of actually being a player (like macamp) this doesn't really make sense anymore.

So my thoughts are, if Apple wants this thing to be a player like macamp, then it needs a darn playlist, and that playlist needs more than icons. And the equalizer behavior needs to match this goal of it being a player.

glad to see there's some agreement

wahhoo - maybe quicktime isnt supposed to be a replacement for macamp. but then why would apple spend all that money on purchasing the original code for mp3s (or whatever they purchased) to make the sound quality top notch? seems like a waste to me if they're not trying to make a feasible mp3 player. maybe theyre just not trying to piss of @soft?

rumple - yah, i guess the favorites drawer it like a playlist. except that it doesnt automatically go to the next song.. and that just is not very useful to someone with 35 hours of music on his computer, for example, me.

anyways, my main gripe is no playlist... other than that, q4 looks good.
