I have a few questions. I applied the DiscBurner hack and it seems to be working fine so far. But, a couple things confuse me:

1.) Is there a way to get around the fact that only 455 megs of data are recognized when I insert a CD? How can I utilize the entire 700 megs of space?

2.) Why does iTunes not remember my prefs anymore?

3.) Why does iTunes lock up when trying to burn an audio CD? It just keeps searching, but nothing happens. I have to force quit iTunes before I can switch to any other open apps.

If anyone can answer some or all of these, I'd be REALLY appreciative. Thanks.

I have the same burner as you.How did you get disk burner to work? When I try to burn a cd, it launches disk burner but the progress bar does nothing. Also, I don't think iTunes will burn with the burner. It isn't supported and I dont think that anyone got it to work.

I used the hack at http://homepage.mac.com/ddewey1/discburn/

I used the installer at the bottom of the page, and it works great. I cleared out EVERYTHING that Toast used and disabled all the extensions provided by the Spressa. Works great, except only 455 megs of space is recognized. Not cool.

And now iTunes forgets my freaking prefs every time I launch it. Annoying as hell.

I have this same burner, and everything is working fine.

Go download iTunes 1.1 and Disc Burner 1.0.1. These will both install without complaint (be sure to install Disc Burner *with* support for external drives), and I've been able to burn from both without a hitch.

The only thing I had to do was to make sure that the CD-RW drive was the only other USB device plugged in besides my keyboard & mouse. If I left the burner plugged in to a USB hub with my Zip drive and VST floppy, then iTunes and Disc Burner were not happy.

BTW, config:
iMac Rev. C (266MHz), 160MB RAM, 20GB HD, Sony Spressa CRX100E USB CD-RW, etc., etc., etc.

Does this mean that you're burning at greater than 489MB (data) or 55min (audio) with your CRX 100 E/X2? If so, do give details (extensions active with version #s, etc).

He doesn't have a 100E/X2, he has a 100E, which is supported.

Perhaps the difference between the 100E and 100E/X2 is what makes the difference between iTunes burning working and not then. In taking apart my CRX100E/X2 i found a CRX120E drive inside. Hmm... maybe THIS is why iTunes/Toast keeps calling it that eh?

I'll make a wager that folks with the CRX100E drive have the CRX100E show up in iTunes/Toast.

Could this be the difference between iTunes success and iTunes failure?
