Who else would like to see the CD Player rolled in to the new QT Player...?

I personally think that would be AWESOME, and as ancient as the old audio CD player is, it only makes sense...

Also, I should point out that I HATE the functionality of the resize thumb in the new player. Most people don't know about, or care about aspect ratios. All they want is to resize the window.

I've also noticed that it takes a little while for the Player window to redraw after either a dialog box or another window has appeared over it. Let's just say that if the shipping version takes thing long, I'll be hard pressed NOT to downgrade.

Man. If Apple could just make a few sligh adjustments to this Player and add the ability to play CDs, whoa. That's all I can say about it. Just, whoa...

That sounds great. How about calling Qucktime Media Player or something - I think Media Player is already taken by Microsoft.

Even if they don't roll the two together, how about updating the CD-Player's interface to that of QT 4's.

The only issue I see is this: QT4 uses over 4 MB of RAM while Apple CD Audio Player uses less than 500kb. This could be a problem if QT4 stops playing the CD when you quit, unlike ACDAP which continues playing the CD even if you quit the program.

I also thought of this idea. On the night of QuickTime 4Õs release.

Combine the two but also add the functionality of NetCD. That being to connecting to and interacting with the CDDB. It also would be great if it could create MP3.

I disagree with the Media Player idea tough.

You know, do we really HAVE to quit the CD Player program? And, not only that, but the current CD Player DOES still work, so, I don't know. I guess I was just thinking that maybe Apple would do something like they're gonna do with the Chooser here pretty soon, and have the old program still be supported and available, but start migrating the functionality over to QuickTime Player.

CDDB functionality is a good idea too.

Right on! The Apple CD player sucks right now anyway, just throw it in with the "media player," afterall CDs are a form of multimedia!

And who else would like to see a better Xclaim Video Player application from ATI?

Imagine if Apple and ATI would team up to add a plug-in architecture for the QT Player where a module for the TV Tuner from ATI in use with the upcoming XClaimVR 128 would add TV viewing abilities in QT Player? I'd love to see the XClaim Player sport the same interface as the QT Player!

In a future release Apple could integrate the DVD player and maybe a company that releases a USB Radio Tuner could have its plugin for QT Player too!

I agree that the QT Player should also have Audio CD support with CDDB.

Alright!!! And lets have a the Apple Menu calculator, Simple Sound and the Jigsaw Puzzle embedded into the QT4 Player...and while Apple is at it, let's have a mini word-processor that pops up when you hit an optional tab on the side of the player. Yeah!!! That would be wicked. If they have time, I wouldn't mind having a spreadsheet either.

Oh...and QuickTime 4 should also cook for me...do my laundry...and take out the garbage. And when MacOS X and the G4 are released all these tasks will be done simultaneously with the new pre-emptive multitasking system.

Yeah! That's a great idea, Phungus! ;-) Then they can start building in all the applications you'll ever need, Photoshop, Excel, FileMaker, Netscape, and on and on. Sure, it'll require 84Mb of RAM, and it'll take ten minutes to load, but who cares!? ;-)

Like the point Phungus made, I like to keep things small and fast over slow and try to do too much...

Wow, I don't know what Phungus's problem is, but s/he seems to have some issues to work through...

For me, I'm all in favor of a facelift and increase in functionality of the CD Player DA. It was almost cool-looking when it came out back in 7.x (anybody remember in which OS version it first appeared?), but never quite made the "chrome" wow-factor chart for me.

Regardless of whether it gets a facelift, gets integrated into QuickTime 4, or takes a flying leap, the CD Player absolutely NEEDS CDDB capability. That's all there is to it.

Maybe the new virtual memory stuff in OS X will address the memory and loading time issues.
I should mention that I use the Scrapbook as an MP3 player, with AppleWorks draw documents as indices.

Why don't the guys in MacAMP make a plugin or engine that will use Quicktime 4? Then we would get the great performance of QT4 with just ANY interface we would ever want.

I already e-mailed the MacAmp team about this about 3 weeks ago but I never got an answer.

What did you recommend them, Fungus? In my perspective, the only thing they could exploit from QT4 would be the streaming audio and video, the video playback, editing, full screen, etc..
MP3s in QT4 is not at the level of MacAMP's XAudio, neither QT4's messy interface is at the level of the "skinnable" MacAMP. The guys at @soft could give a swift kick it the QTplayer's b____.

Well, I did email Apple Support via feedback link, but the girl who emailed me back told that she would not forward my great suggestion to the Apple media player developers because they did not accept suggestions from "unsolicited parties". So
my suggestion for a QT4 interface for the AppleCD Audio Player went unheard to Apple's ears. But a MASS public petition to Apple might catch their attention. That, or does anybody know Steve Job's email address?

Later days, n' better lays,

I'd like to see the Apple Video Player rolled into the player. Since QT4, my video inputs on my 8500 don't work... something about missing QuickTimeLib. So, if QT4 has an open archetecture, this could be fixed, right?

Hey Apple CD Player in QuickTime Player!!! It sounds kool I know... I was reading the lastest copy of MacAddict magazine, when I saw on the "How to do it section" about QuickTime Player suppoting chapters heading!!! This "chapter heading" inside QuickTime lets you jump to different sections inside the movie. Well, the point is that this could help change CD tracks as well! Don't you think? Now the question is if Apple will allow the music to keep playing if you quit the QuickTime!!!

But I leave it to the engineers at Apple!!! hehehehehe....

Well... keep the ball rolling with more suggestions!! Such as.. What the hell happen to Apple events support over IP that Steve Jobs showed over a year ago? Remember when he was commanding thru an similar QT player and it took action on the client browser? Now, I would love to see that rolling out in QuickTime 4.5 next year!!!!

Salute,

lucifer™
