I will assume for this note that you have already played these MPEGs with MacAmp before you downloaded QuickTime 4. . .If this is true I had a similar problem. If I "recreated" the files (MPecker Drop Decoder to AIFF, MPEG Audio Creator to return AIFFs to MPEG) Quicktime 4 would play them. If you do it correctly the icons in your QuickTime 4 Favorites Drawer will appear as a grey box with a white/bondi EKG readout instead of a film frame with a "4". I hope this helps. Rock On with your new MPEG player

Another thing that you can try is to change the type and creator code to the below.

type: MPEG
creator: TVOD

These are the codes from a saved MPEG Layer3 file that was d/l from the web (BTW, if your connection is fast enough or the site uses the QT Streaming server, then the MP3 streams!). Use resedit or similar program to change the creator and type. HTHs.

I have been able to get all of my MP3's to work, but I have run into some other problems. Apparently the buffering of QT4 is not nearly as effective as it is in MacAmp 1.0b7. With MacAmp, I can easily play a series of MP3's on my iMac while doing other things like typing Word documents or surfing the web. With QT4, I tend to get more interruptions, especially in processor intensive tasks.

Ok, I tried to open it again and I got a error message that says:

Couldnīt open the file "The MP3-files name" because an unknown error occurred. The number of the error is: -40.

Could this be to any help?

This Beta does not support Variable Bitrate (VBR) encoding, therefore you may experience jerky or popping playback of some MP3 files. Every MP3 file that I've ripped/encoded with AudioCatalyst using Constant Bitrate encoding sounds fantastic. The Mac Quicktime Player does suffer from the problems associated with the OS's shared multitasking kernel, though.

Use the drag and drop feature... place the MP3's in the special white boxes... it's key that you press play... you can't just double click on the song, it won't play that way... I thought it was odd, but I don't mind moving my mouse an inch or two to start the MP3 into motion.

Start MoviePlayer. Go to the Preferences Menu choice from the Edit Menu, and pick the "General..." submenu. Mark the checkbox "Play movie from beginning when opened" to get it to play as soon as you single click your favorite from the drawer.

Now it works, thank you!
Drawing the MP3 to the favorites worked!

I have notice that MPEG is not supported on 68K Macs, and it's only for PowerMacs..

I hope Apple could reverse this in the final version. I hope this helps some people with the same question!
