VST burner and iTunes/DB

A friend of mine has a VST portable cd-rw drive with USB interface. The 3rd Party Drives list shows VST drives and Ricoh mechanisms but only shows a Powerbook bay drive and a VST Firewire Portable. This firewire portable is the same one as this USB that he's got, but you need to by some $80 firewire cable with special adapter. Plus he doesn't have Firewire ports on his Wallstreet. Should be the same but... Any solutions?
