What is the best way to create a collage

Wondering if anyone can help me out.

I'm doing a project where I have about 8-12 pictures per page scanned in, for about 22 pages. I need to make a nice looking collage, but I don't have all the time in the world. I can make a nice one in photoshop just using masks, and painting the edges, but I was wondering if anyone has a great technique for collages that might speed me up a bit.
