DivX is a great thing, isn’t it?
Why only PC users can take advantage of it?
Ok, I agree, there is also a DivX Player for Mac (www.mac.st), but:
- it’s only a player. So, no encoding possibilities...
- the last version is 1.0b9. “Last” means: no other version will be released in the future
- it doesn’t work as it should (it’s a beta)
In spite of this, those guys (those who developed the DivX Player for Mac) have made a great job considering that the original DivX codec isn’t OpenSource; they did a good implementation of a difficult codec.
Now, the team who developed the original DivX codec is working on a sort of “DivX 2” called OpenDivX. Yes, “Open” means Open Source!!!!!!!! This means that porting DivX to other platform will be “easier”. At their site (www.projectmayo.com) you can already see, in addiction to the Windows section, a Linux section and a Mac section.
Yes: we will have a fully functional DivX codec working on Macs. A guy has already started an OpenDivX Mac port project. I think it’s alone, so he needs plenty of help in making it better...
HERE IS THE LINK
Let's go help him!
(hey, I don't know him and I'm not a friend of him, but I think he's doing a good job)
