iMovie problems with OS X

I seem to be running into a consistent problem with iMovie on OS X. I have a Sony digital media converter hooked into the FireWire port to feed footage into the system. iMovie on OS 9 sees it no problem, but in OS X it refuses to make the connection.

I've tried this on two different systems (iMac 800MHz and G4 dual 500).

I also ran into another problem with iMovie and OS X. I tried to add a text element and when trying to view it, iMovie crashes. This is on a brand new iMac with nothing else installed. Basic Times font.

So anyway, for now I am giving up on iMovie on OS X and will run in on OS 9 for now...

Does anybody know how to fix this?
Thanx. Phil.

I used iMovie for my Dazzle DV converter for a while (before switching to BTV), and on several occaisions it would decide that it was in PAL that day instead of NTSC, preventing a video signal. I forget if I got a blue screen or black... For me it only happened in OS 9 and I could change it by editing the prefs in a text editor. And it probably doesn't have anything to do with your text-crashing problem, but it's something to look into....I've never used iMovie for anything but capture, so it might somehow be the same problem

oh yeah, another problem with iMovie: The dazzle only has one control. A switch toggles through 3 modes: Analog (A) to Digital (D), Passthrough, and D to A. iMovie in both OS's would constantly reset the dazzle to Passthrough and I'd have to get up and switch it back. Maybe something similar is happening to you

I'm trying to get my hands on FCP so it's not that important that iMovie works for me.... however, I just find it odd that it is not behaving in OS X, yet there are no problems in 9.

Oh well.. maybe when Jaguar comes out, alot of this stuff will be resolved.

Thanx guys!
Phil.

The original Sony DVMC-DA1 is NOT compatible with OS X. The newer model DA2 is.
I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous.
