My imovies import just fine. However, when I export them back to my new Sony TRV320 I get this popping noise on the tape.

I am running with imovie 2.03, Mac OS 9.1, virtual memory is off, plantium sounds are off, and I have the latest firewire drivers.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Increase the memory for iMovie. Buy a lot of physical RAM, (very cheap these days) and give iMovie triple the suggested amount.
Or if you have less than 256 MB physical, turn on virtual memory, and boost iMovie.
Hope this helps.
