You know how some trailers are in that full presentation screen mode for high bandwidth. Well, for those, even the smaller movies do the same thing. You can't save the file to your harddrive after it finishes downloading. I tried to go into the files in QT and trying to extract video and sound, deleting the splash screens etc. No luck. What can you do to be able to save these movies?

I remember when the Xmen trailer 1st came out, it was the first to have the full screen preview. It too wouldn't allow you to save, but somehow I stumbled across it and was able to save. But no more...

I posted a "how-to" on this a while back. Just let the movie load, and then copy the temp file the QuickTime plugin creates in the "Temporary Items" folder. Rename it "Whatever.mov" and you're done.

I'll have to check at home later, but the only Temp Folder I see is in the IE Prefs in the System folder. I guess I need to use ResEdit or something to see the systems temp folder? I downloaded it through Netscape so it wouldn't have been in the IE folder. So should I get the trailer using IE and then it'll appear in IE's Temp Folder?

If the movie has a window and not contained a window (i.e. It has the quicktime look) then if you have QT pro then click on the right bar and do a save as movie.

Use Netscape and check your cache folder for a .mov file.
Or, view the source of the page, and find the link to the movie, and download it with Interarchy or something.

The "Temprary Items" folder is invisible. You can however use Sherlock to search for the QuickTime plugin temp file ("QTPluginTemp" or something like that), and then copy it from the Sherlock window to the desktop (option-drag for the newbies). The rename it to "whatever.mov" the Finder will recognize it as a QuickTime movie file.

The trick is to make sure you do not close the browser window, or QuickTime player window that contains the movie or the temp file will go away. For "full-screen" trailers, you will need to command-period to get out of full screen mode.

I've got pro, and I know about that, but sometimes the movie won't allow you to save it.

Cipher, yeah I kinda poked around and found them in the cache folder. It seems to be the same movie file, same size just a cache name.mov. I only tried from work and its slow as hell, so i can't download anything completely. It opened but then kinda crashed. So I'm wondering if just copying that cache file to the desktop works. It should.

Using iCab I just search the cache folder for a really big file... When you find it just draag it to your desktop, rename and open with Quicktime Player. I was stumped when I upgraded to 9.1 cause I couldn't figure out how to "aim" the search at the cache folder with Sherlock 2. Then I figured out you can drag the folder into Sherlock 2's window and select it.... This has been the easy way to do it for me...

mrchin: Just give me the name of the trailer and I'll find you a direct link to the file.
