I have MP3's with file creators of Audion, SoundJam, and iTunes; I want to change them all to iTunes.

How do I change the file creator? I would have figured ResEdit, but MP3's have no resource forks apparently.

Thanks

File Buddy, A Better Finder Tools etc.
The latter choice is very quick.

try searching for the above or 'file creator' , 'resource editor' , 'system tools' at macupdate or versiontracker.

you could use resedit,
click cancel on starting up resedit (the 'open' window).
menu: file
submenu: file/ folder info

(I think it's that way, but at the moment I'm working on a PC, so I can't check)

When I opened my mp3's with resedit to change the creator, Resedit asked me to create resource forks. I said ok. Is this a bad thing???

I used an applescript to convert the file type to iTunes, I think the command is something like

set creator to 'hook'

but I can't remember off hand.

I thought there was a program called iTunes FilyTyper or something that just came out right after the iT 1.1 release. Now that I'm trying to find it, I can't. It was third party so I think Apple forced them to get rid of it maybe.

iTunes Associator is a simple application that changes the file type and file creator codes of any mp3 file to associate them with iTunes. You can change as many or as few. It eliminates the tedious process of having to do it manually, by simply allowing you do drag and drop your collection of mp3s or folders of MP3s onto it's icon. It's that simple!

That's it, iTunes Associator. It was gone for a while but now it's back on versiontracker or download.com. Make sure it's version 1.6. You can just drag your entire folder over the associator and all of the songs inside turn into iTunes.

Yes, that works well. But if you ever want to create a drag and drop droplet to change something to a certain creator/type, I suggest using "TMDC Droplet Builder" It is a wonderful application that can make custom droplets. Here is the interface:

Dragging a file onto the window automatically transfers it's creator/type to the window in the fields.

You can get it here

It is a really handy utility. I seriously recommend it.
