I am wondering if it is possible to use my DV camcorder (w/Firewire) as a webcam. Anybody know of an easy solution?

I don't know how they exactly did it, but a tv channel here in holland has live coverage of the European soccer championship and on their show's website they have livecams. Inside info told me they use a Canon MV300 for this live quicktime feed at: http://195.240.16.207/villabvd/livecams/livecams.php3

(i guess quicktime streaming server, it is used a lot in keynotes (steve) too, and now it is free..)

i don't know if webcamtoo (or other webcam software) can use the quicktime firewire enable/capture extensions ?
anybody here knows more 'bout those?

I think that you can use iVisit program with your DV Cam for video chat. Im going to try it tonight. Theres also a message from somebody on their message board saying that they used there firewire cam with a G4 and ivisit.

heres the link: www.ivisit.com

For sure! Make sure you have the latest Firewire Extensions, but otherwise it totally works. I've been using this cool program called Cool Cam (http://members.aol.com/yuv422/) for a webcam and iVisit.

My only problem is my Canon Elura shuts off after like 10minutes of sitting there.

You can use pretty much any program that supports the "input source" feature. Just select "Apple Firewire" instead of S-Video or Composite.

I've tried to use my Sony Digital8 camcorder with CUSeeMe but no go. I can get video with the camera on the Apple Video Player app, but I get an error message w/ CUSeeMe (something about need to update the video card). Is there a workaround for this, or must I change webconferencing apps?
Thanks.

Check to see if your camera is set to sleep after 10 minutes.
I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous.

I use SiteCam by NuSpectra. You need a static IP address, though. Easy set up. It prompts you along the way.
