I have a 79 minutes DVD project made on IDVD 2 over MAC OS X 10.1 the burning
process is taking around 14 minutes but at the end of the burning process I am
getting this error message

Errors Found
The recording device reported the illegal request
buffer underrun (0X21, 0x02.)

The DVD media is operational but it lacks the last 49 seconds of the file

Does anyone know how to avoid this?

There are many MANY discussions of this problem with iDVD2 on Apples web site. Unfortunately there really isn't a workaround for it other than to make sure that you aren't running anything else, even in th ebackground, while you encode and burn. I just recently ran into this, infact today, and now have a coaster.

Apple does recognize the problem but, obviously, don't have a fix for it yet. Check out Apple's discussion boards for other workarounds.
