Anyone know if it's possible to convert an mpeg encoded with MS MPEG-4 into a format readable by Quicktime?

What I'm basically asking is :

Are there any apps (PC only, obviously) to convert MPEG-4 to DivX, Quicktime, MPEG-1, or anything else?

Thanks in advance...

Have you tried the divx component for MacOS X, divx.jamby.net ?
This can decode MS MPEG-4 v3 streams (avi). It also includes a
avi2mov converter which makes the problem with avi-files go away !
(It also makes the files streamable, avi isnīt)

I donīt know if thereīs a version for MacOS 9, but there you can
use the DivXPlayer-WMP thing ...

Hope that you can find a way to play the movies ! I think the Jamby
solution works OK, even if itīs not Altivec enhanced. No encoding support,
(ie encode to DivX, but you can convert to other format from DivX)
(Iīm using a pbg4-550/256/20/DVD)

Hmm. The file is in MPEG format, not AVI, so the DivX/WMP for OS 9 didn't work, and I don't have OS X, so it'll have to wait for now.

Thanks for the help!

Did it!

Used Windows Media Encoder for PC (free) to convert to Windows Media v7, then TMPGEnc (also freeware, I think) to convert to MPEG.

It took a little messing around with the settings, but the results are pretty good!
