A few questions,
1. What is the major difference between the two?
2. Will both work with my G4/450 and Imovie?
3. Where to buy the darned things?!
I have hit ebay and those people are crazy!! They are bidding upwards of $500 for something you can buy direct from Sony for $399.
I have looked at a few video specific web sites and none have it listed. Can anyone please help me find one?
Thanks

I have a DVMC-DA1

I bought mine new on eBay for $375 six months ago. Keep looking.

I suggest you get the DVMC-DA1 instead of the DA2. I've been hearing about compatibility problems with the DA2. The DA2 requires a serial connector (Lan-C) for some device control.

The place to look is ProMax Systems, http://www.promax.com. They're a VAR specializing in digital video for the Mac. Their sales staff is a) knowledgeable, and b) helpful.

The original DVMC-DA1 was a FireWire DV (aka i.Link) to composite (S-Video) transcoder. Later iterations added the ability to read and write MemoryStick.

I had a DA-2 a few weeks ago. The DA-2 WILL NOT accept exports from iMovie. There is a tech bulletin on Apple's web site. I was luck to get a DA-1 at eBay for about $370.00.
The owner said he didn't need it anymore. It came with all the original packaging in like new condition. Keep in mind that the DA-1 has been discontinued by Sony. I couldn't find one ANYWHERE. I went to one camera store in New York that had one but wanted $600.00 for it!!!! Keep checking eBay.

Well, I have looked at ProMax and they have the DVMC-DA1 for $444 delivered. Not too bad IMHO. My camcorder has LANC so it should not be a problem. Is there an advantage in using the DA2 with LANC over the DA1 without it?
Also what about find a used DA1? Anybody seen any of these?
Thanks for all the help so far!!!!!
