At long-last looks like someone stepped up to the plate to offer a complete TV-record device that is fully functional in OS X.

The Hardware:
Studio DV/TVR

The Software:
Studio X

Unfortunately, one glance at that price tag and i'm a bit less enthused. Any clues on when we will see sub $200 video cards with time-shift capabilities like the Radeon All-In-Wonder 8500s on the Mac?

Hint: for those who might have missed the boat on the most amazing video card since sliced bread, check here.

The lack of anything comparable to the 8500's puts a real hole in the concept of the Mac as the premiere "digital hub".

It's not TiVO until you have a program guide showing what's on, and an ability to search by program, actor, rerun or first run, ability to subscribe to an actor, program, etc...

it's nice, but it's no TiVO.
If this post is in the Lounge forum, it is likely to be my own opinion, and not representative of the position of MacNN.com.

Whoa! Unless my eyes are deceiving me that thing is going for 1000$! Hmmm, for that money I'd rather just buy 3 TiVo's, and still have a hundred bucks left over.

I'll ask again...

Any clues on when we will see sub $200 video cards with time-shift capabilities like the Radeon All-In-Wonder 8500s on the Mac? Read an interview with an exec from ATi claiming that they were working bringing 8500 to the Mac, but no word as of late... Ideas?
