DVD playback video freezes

On my new G3 Powerbook, virtual memory off, during playback of a movie;
several times during the watching of the movie the video will freeze for a few seconds and then jump back in at the right place with the audio track. The audio never seems to get interrupted like this.

Anyone know why? How can I fix this? It is very annoying.
