Hi everybody,
at the moment I am working With an Imac DV SE and I have run out of HD to work with DV, so I have been offered a 30GB FirewireHD with these specifications:
7200rpm
14 Mb/s
Ide drive in a firewire case.
And I am not sure that even with these specifications the IDE drive will be fast enough to work with video.
Anybody can tell anything about it?
Thanks Macmates

IDE drives are perfectly fine for video, providing you're not someone who needs the HIGHEST quality out of their video.
The standard iMovie enthusiast doesn't need more than an IDE drive.

I remember an Apple TIL saying that direct Dv capture to an external firewire hard disk could give less than perfect results on some machines, probably due to timing problems in the firewire interface; they recommend to use the internal hard disk for capturing and streaming out, and use the external one for the editing of the footage.

ps have you considered to change the internal hard disk with a larger one?
