I just got a new 8mm cam, and I want to get the video from the tapes to my computer, any easy way of doing this? Video/Audio In/out or a rca to firewire adapter of some sort? Any idea's appreciated.

Well, there are 2 ways, that I know of, to do this:

1. Buy a Firewire (iLink) to RCA converter box from Sony. But from what I hear there are problems with keeping audio in sync with iMovie. This being the cheaper of the two options maybe someone knows how to fix this problem. Also with this option you can convert any RCA signal into FireWire; unlike the next option.

2. Or buy any Digital8 Camera from sony. It'll put you back a few bucks, but you can play all of your 8mm tapes, and import them into iMovie with little or no problem.

Also check out this thread.

Hope this helps.

I just remembered the IOmega Buz, which is the "perfect" solution it seems, Abit expensive, but I'll give it a go. Anyone have any experiance with the Buz?

You'll need an available PCI slot, but it's a good product.

See also an older thread titled:
"Converting analog video to DV"

1. The easiest way for you is to get a Digital8 Camera from Sony (as bizzare already mentioned).

2. Get a hold of a dv camera with analog video/audio in. You then take your camera video/audio out into the dv camera analog video/audio in. Firewire out to Computer and you're set! (This might not be the "easiest" solution.
