Ack--link timed out: http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/

By the time I'm done with the FCP 2 manual, FCP 4'll be out.

Why don't they have a darn page for it like FCP2? At least I haven't found it. Schiller's keynote is done in 10 min, they gotta have something about it.

EDIT: It's nice that I can upgrade from 1.2.5 for $200 w/ education discount.

DAMN!

500 Mhz G4 required for real-time effects
667 Mhz G4 TiBook reuired for real-time effects

Sucks to be me with a 450 Mhz G4 and a 500 Mhz PowerBook now then I guess?

at least the rendering should be conciderably faster...

realtime effects is very cool. i hate waiting.

i also noticed that the FCP3 contents description doesn't mention Cleaner at all. was it mentioned in 1 and 2?

wow, check out the movies.
the color correction one in particular is very impressive.

i'm glad my department is just now looking into some serious DV. should be easy enough to have them buy a new copy.

I am coming up with a reasonable price to sell my 400 TiPB as we speak. Hmmmm, Phew, was contemplating the under powered RTMac for a while. Still, the "Realtime" definition has not really beem tested.

Does the "color corrector 3 way" remind you of something from Boris AE or composite suite, feature I mean, not interface?

Just....wow...I have to say....the FCP team...are like...jesus they are really good at what they do...looks like I'm gonna be spending some money on new a new system also. This upgrade is incredible...I think it's going to give some people who use AVID systems a reason to switch.

Is it worth it for me to buy a brand new dual system or just buy the sonnet dual 500 upgrade? I have a Sawtooth G4 400 as my editing system now..Just trying to figure out what to do.

I am so glad I didn't spend money on the RT-Mac.

ABOUT REAL TIME

If you read the site strictly, it sounds as though the 'software' Real Time is only available when using the teenie-tiny OfflineRT option. So, effectively, you have to make all your footage the offline sizes in order to work with RT.

THEN you re-dig into online (full dv) and THEN RENDER all those transitions (and colorcorrection?) in online quality.

Hey, at least it all should happen faster in OS X! YEAH BABY!

What do you all think?

Apple Online Education Store. It'll probably be in your local Univeristy bookstore shortly as well.

3D--

but the Real-Time Effects page says this:

Final Cut Pro 3 delivers the industry's first out-of-the-box, real-time effects architecture: wipes, dissolves, and color correction happen in real time when using DV and OfflineRT material with a dual processor Power Mac G4. And check out what you can do with the PowerBook G4. In effect, what used to be one of the most expensive and labor-intensive aspects of movie-making back in the glory days of Hollywood can now be accomplished on your G4 with Final Cut Pro.

ph@lmi.net

Great observation! On taking a closer look: the realtime page DOES read:

"When using OfflineRT or DV, the following effects are available for real-time:[list]"

Hopefully I stand corrected! Yeah baby!

enjoy!

oh, yeah, 3D, you can bet i looked for that. i figger using offlineRT will open up RT effects on slower systems though, and will allow more tracks to render-on-the-fly at once on my DP500.

compositing effects are my biggest time burn (as far as rendering in FCP goes). i can't wait to get my delivery - when i ordered, it said shipping in one day, now if i 'pretend' to order it again, it says 18 days.

time will tell. whoo-hoo, no more dual boot!

Ditto... oh well. I don't need real time. It'd be nice, but...

If the G5 rev. B is any good... lets see this thing fly on that baby

Kudos to the Apple FCP team - I wouldn't hesitate to give FCP the "best software of the year" award, or even better...

$199 FCP 3 Educational Upgrade!
I have FCP 2 Educational version. I got an e-mail announcing the FCP upgrade for $199. Clicked the "buy it now" link to Apple Store, it was listed at $299. Spoke to the Apple Store, they gave me FCP 3 for Educator upgrade for $199!
