Does anybody here know how I can compress a piece of video with Sorenson 3 and have it be the same quality and size as the movie trailers that are posted on Apple's site. Is this even possible. I've had a two minute movie, compressed with Sorenson 3, and the only way that I can make the file size at all manageable is to make the video something like 20 x 10 pixels.

WTF? How do they compress their trailers at such high quality and come in at under 20 megs? Will someone please explain this to me.

Thanks.

Major movie trailers on the Apple site are compressed by around 15 of the top compression people over months. Using lots of $$. But you can still get good results. Use a small test clip and try every codec at different settings.

You will never match the quality of the hollywood trailers if you are using the free standard version of Sorenson (although the version 3 freebie is pretty good). For top pro quality you will need the developer edition of Sorenson, something like Cleaner or the new Squeeze for utilising Sorenson's VBR capabilities, the highest quality source material, and a great deal of experience with video compression.

A few years ago there was a nice article in some digital video magazine about Doug Werner and how he compressed the Star Wars Episode One trailer.
