Camera Disconnected in iMovie

I am having trouble with iMovie and my Powerbook (firewire). I am using a Sony DCR-TRV8 camcorder. This camcorder was once listed on Apple's site as compatible (the original list, not the current "new" list).

When I connect the camcorder to the Powerbook, I only see "Camera Disconnected" in iMovie. Without a manual, I really don't know where to go with this.

Could it be the cable itself? Some system software not up to date? Any help?

Thanks ... Ronnie

I had the same problem when I first tried connecting a friends TRV900E. My friend went to an apple store and tried it out with some iMac DV's and new cables from the same store but the problem persisted. It end up being a bad bunch of cables that the store had in stock. I ended up getting a Sony cable for my new camera....TRV520. The price was damn outrageous $60 AUD but I didn't want the same hassles. So yes, definatly try a new cable.
