what are the best ways to find video production work/side jobs? i have all the necessary equipment (G4/GL1) but not really sure where to look. I have no REAL experience, but i have 2 yrs of AE and Premier experience (along w/many 3D programs)

any pros out there have any suggestions? tips? hints?

well, my uncle gave me the following advice for photography or video side jobs:

1 - just walk around town and take pictures of some neat stuff
2 - show it to some people and see if they'll buy it!

example: he saw a bunch of catterpillar machines parked on a hill. so, he thought up an intresting angle and took the picture. he showed it to catterpillar, and they bought it! they're gonna use it on their catalog.

example 2: in our area, there is a lot of development going on. there was this one building he thought was interesting, so he went there every week and took some video and stills. he took stills from the same places every week, and video of the workers. once the building was completed, he put together the video and sold it to them. made a nice chunk o' cash.

so, i guess my point is, take video of things you find interesting. if someone wants to buy em, cool.

First and foremost, get some video experience! Watch a bunch of movies and then go out and try to do similar things. Experiment with different camera and lighting techniques. My friends and I would make movies just for fun and they were actually really good movies. Once you show these around, you'll probably get a reputation as being a 'video man' and start to network with a few others like you. I had to accept another job this summer, but my friends were able to take jobs helping with pre-production for a movie and with the Xgames on ESPN.
