Soundjam Quicker than iTunes at ripping?

Hi,
I was booted into 9.1 today and I decided to try something. I ripped a song in 9.1 iTunes at 5.1-5.5x on my G4 350. I then decided to try ripping it with the same settings(bit rate and all) in Soundjam MP 2.5.1. In Soundjam it ripped at like 5.9x the whole time. Any ideas why soundjam is faster?
