Hello,
Looking at purchasing a superdrive and was wondering in the Firewire DVD Oxford 911Chip- Pioneer A03 what exactly the 911 Chipset does?

Does it make any difference if I buy an internal pioneer dvra03 for $426 vs buying an external Firewire?

Down the road, will the Firwire unit be more desirable?

Thanks for helping out a new person to dvd-r.

Jerry

I am not an expert on Pioneer products. but i do know and Oxfor chip is a very improved way of transfering data from your drive to the system. ususally drives without oxfor chip transfer upto 14 MB (not Mbits) per second, I heard Oxfor chip because of it's bridging technology does upto 34 MB per second which would make a differance if you are dealing with Video.

also a good place to get advice on or even buy drives is www.caldrives.com
their prices are not very good but they all use oxford chip on all the drives and they can explain to you why it is better.

I hope you know that you CANNOT use iDVD2 with external DVD-R drives (incl. the Pioneer drive). you nee the DVD Studio pro software for that. ($999).

optical drives will not benefit from the extra speed in a 911 drive. optical drives are very slow compared to HDs, so don't bother with the extra expense. If you were getting a 7200RPM HD, I'd say go for the 911, but with optical drives (CDRW, DVD-RAM, etc.), there is just no need.
