I have old Hi8 footage I'm hoping to capture onto my hard drive.

I've taken an S cable to connect the Sony 801 Hi8 to the Sony PD100A. The Hi8 is set on 'VTR'; I can't seem to get any picture through my PD100A, which is then hooked up via Firewire to my Powerbook.

I WAS successful with the PDA100a when I took off the lens cap and FCP captured my office off the DV camera.

But I *think* there's a way I can run the Hi8 via the DV Sony into FCP without actually capturing it onto a DV tape?

Am I right?
Thanks in advance.

You have to capture to tape first. I believe the feature you want is called e to e, but I can't remember for sure. It is available in the professional DV decks.
