Has anyone been able to import video clips from imovie of FCP into Corel Painter. And using the frame stacks to draw oveer the video? I read an article in computer videomaker magazine about i, but I cannot figure out how to get the dv clip into painter. i emailed Corel but never got a response. I also emailed the magazine and they could not get in touch with the guy who wrote the article. Thanks

I must preface this response by saying that i have never used painter and therefore don't know about it's import capabilities. If i can import and paint directly on Quicktime files then it's something new to me. This feature is called rotoscoping and is a feature of high end video effects packages like Combusion and Commotion (and After effects to a limited exent.) To use a stills based program like Painter of photoshop to paint on images you can do the following although it is highly laborious and therefor we use programs like those mentioned above.

Have your edited clip in the timeline in imovie. (i haven't used imovie either but assume it's similiar to Final Cut Pro) Choose export and then choose to export a pict sequence. Here you can also choose what level of compresson you need. (choose none if you want to retain the highest quality) imovie/FCP will then export each frame of the clip in the timeline as an individual pict file which you can then open in Painter or Photoshop to manipulate. Be aware though that NTSC video has 29.97 frames per second so for a 5 second clip you will be painting on around 150 individual pict files.
