CD Spin Doctor max recording times

I'm having some problems recording music to my PowerBook G3 using the CD Spin Doctor program that came with Toast 5 Titanium. I'm able to record music just fine with this program, but the max time I can get it to record to the hard drive is 3:08:38 -- 3-hours, 8-minutes, 38-seconds. Now I tried freeing up more hard drive space, but the max recording will still not go above 3:08:38 -- even when I let it use my 75GB hard drive with 70GBs free space. Anyone know what the problem might be? Is there another application that I can use -- preferable free -- that will record for longer periods of time? I just want to be able to record my favorite talk radio show that lasts five hours each day.

Just a guess, but copy and run Spin Doctor from the 75GB drive. I believe the app will only write to the drive that it's loaded on (and it calculates the free space of that drive).

Another option is to download Coaster from macdownloads (it's free), and change the input settings to 8-bit (or even mono) to reduce the size of the AIFF file. Since you're saving a talk show, fidelity might not be as important.

Hope this helps... .

How large was the three hour file? Was it more than 2GB? Mac OS 9 allows for files larger than 2GB but not many applications can take advantage of that option (even Apple's own iMovie breaks all your clips into 2GB chunks). Perhaps Spin Doctor still has old code (written before Mac OS 9) that won't allow it to write to a file larger than 2GB.

I come to find out that CD Spin Doctor has a maximum record limit of 3-hours, or 2MBs, and it can't go beyound that. The solution was in using SoundJam MP Plus to record the boradcast in MP3 format. Now I can record 5-hours at a lower bitrate and it only makes a 52MB file. This is actually much better solution for me as I have a Nomad II MG MP3 player with 192MBs and can now store more than 15-hours

You mean 2GB, right? It wouldn't be very useful at all if the limit was 2MB!!!
