Hi,
I just got my hands on a new G4/466 with built in CD/RW from Sony. When I format a Blank CD, and look at the get-info window of the virtual CD it tells me it has a version "1.4.3", this is the same as the Version of the Apple CD/DVD-Driver Extension. So its quite possible that the magic of the virtual CD is done within the new CD-Driver. I dont believe Apple will ever add support for SCSI-CD/RWs to the SCSI CD-Driver. Even Plug-ins from other manufacturers are useless without this.
Use Toast 5, It also burns in the background, has more choices, and supports SCSI drives.

Roxio is a recently created subsidiary of Adaptec.

I wasn't aware that Toast 5 was shipping. Are these pre-release copies that you have been using or are you both just postulating about how good you think it will be when it does?

Hear hear!

Also when Toast 4 used to encounter a corrupt Mpeg file it would just stop there, 5 simply converts it to an AIFF then burns the CD.......sweeeeet.

What are the system requirements for using Toast 5? I *found* a copy and downloaded it onto my Bondi iMac (233, 64MB RAM), but when I open it, it locks up. Doesn't freeze - the cursor just changes to the wait watch, which doesn't spin, and then it just sits there. I have to force quit. Toast 4.x works fine. My burner is a Sony Spressa.

Any thoughts?

Thanks for the offer, Sek. It would be great if you would either e-mail me or post a copy of Toast 5.0b3. I'm running beta 2 under OS 9.1, and I'd like to give the third beta a shot. Also, I just got the program, not the installer, so that might help, too. If you wouldn't mind e-mailing it to me, send it to ansea0@mizzou.edu.

Thanks, NewsHound

Sek, thanks for the installer -- but Toast 5 still doesn't work. The problem is the same as before: program opens, watch icon appears, nothing happens, have to force quit. I restarted with extensions off, and it works fine, so I'm guessing it's an extension conflict. But I removed some of what I thought the culprit extensions were, such as the ones that came with my Spressa and a handful of others, and it still hangs. Toast 4.x still works fine. Any suggestions?
