Was wondering if anyone has experience using iMove with there digital video cameras. I just got a Cannon digital video and want to make some movies with my iMove (and eventually DVDs when I get an iMac) When I import some footage in, it looks very pixalated and rough and dark. But when I watch the cameras external display, everything looks bright and beautiful.

Any thing a dummy like me should know?

I can't tell you why, but I can tell you to not worry about it: exporting to QuickTime and back to the camera is fine.

Maybe others can give the details.

I'm not importing from a DV camera, but video I import into my iMac through the Dazzle DV bridge is very dark, as well, and will remain dark so long as it is on a computer. Importing back out to video looks fine, though.

It has to have something to do with the DV codec and Apple's implementation of it, since on some programs (like BTV) even the option to adjust the image quality is disabled.

Cheers

Actually, I think it has something to do with the way the Dazzle DV bridge works unfortunatly. Imported video is also very dark for me, yet when I used my friend's DV camcorder instead, the imported video from that is bright and visible. It's possible the Hollywood DV bridge brightens the output video when you send it back to analog.

When I want to put video I've captured from my DV Bridge online, I typically have to use a Lighten filter in iMovie before hand. If it's going on DVD or back to VHS, I just leave the captured video unaltered.

I thought the same thing, but the Dazzle works fine on pass-through.... But more to the point: where's the LIGHTEN filter on iMovie? I've never seen it. Does it *work*? Is the video back to normal?

Cheers
